Overview

The J-1 Teacher Program is an initiative by the U.S. Department of State under the BridgeUSA umbrella. It aims to promote cultural and educational exchange by bringing qualified international teachers to teach in American schools (elementary, middle, and high schools). This program offers Jordanian teachers the opportunity to teach full-time in accredited U.S. schools for up to 3 years, with the possibility of a two-year extension (maximum of 5 years).

Essential Requirements

The applicant must hold at least a Bachelor's degree in education or the subject they will teach.

A minimum of two years of full-time teaching experience.

English proficiency at a level enabling teaching in an American environment (TOEFL or IELTS may be required).

Obtaining a job offer from an accredited U.S. school through an approved Sponsor from the U.S. Department of State.

A valid passport for the entire duration of the program.

Application Steps

Apply through an accredited sponsor and secure a job offer from a U.S. school.

Receive Form DS-2019 from the sponsoring organization.

Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee ($220 USD).

Complete the DS-160 online application form.

Pay the visa fee ($185 USD).

Book an appointment at the U.S. Embassy in Amman.

Attend the personal interview and submit the required documents.

Receive the visa and travel to the United States.

Must have invitation from accredited educational institution

Limited to observation and collaborative teaching

Health insurance coverage mandatory

Regular program evaluations required

Cannot replace American teachers

Two-year home residency requirement may apply
