Benefits
Accredited American high school education, adding significant value to your academic path.
Mastery of the English language through daily study and integration with American society.
Rich cultural experience through living with a host family or in a boarding school environment.
Participation in extracurricular activities such as sports, arts, and community service.
Building an international network with students from around the world.
What is the J-1 Visa for Secondary Students?
It grants the student the right to study full-time at an accredited American high school.
The program duration is usually one academic year maximum (it cannot be extended).
Students are not permitted to work in the United States, except for very minor jobs like babysitting, with the host family's approval.
J-2 Visa for Dependents
Can be granted to a spouse or unmarried children under 21 if the high school student is accompanied by a guardian participating in another exchange program.
In the case of the Secondary School Student Program, the student usually travels alone and stays with a host family, so the J-2 visa is not commonly used here.
Host Family Experience
Living with an American host family is a cornerstone of the secondary school exchange experience.
