Overview

The Secondary School Student Program offers international students, including Jordanian students, a unique opportunity to study at an accredited American high school (public or private) for one semester or a full academic year. During this time, the student lives with an American host family or attends a boarding school, providing a comprehensive educational and cultural experience. This program is designed to foster cultural exchange. It is not limited to academic study but also involves participation in school activities, sports, and community events, helping the student develop personal, linguistic, and cross-cultural skills. Host Family Experience One of the defining features of the J-1 High School Student Program is the opportunity to live with an American host family. This experience is not just about accommodation; it grants the Jordanian student a real opportunity to integrate into American society and learn about its customs and traditions firsthand. Safe and Supportive Environment: Host families are carefully selected by the sponsoring organization to ensure a suitable and safe environment for the student.

What is the J-1 Visa for Secondary Students?

It grants the student the right to study full-time at an accredited American high school.

The program duration is usually one academic year maximum (it cannot be extended).

Students are not permitted to work in the United States, except for very minor jobs like babysitting, with the host family's approval.

J-2 Visa for Dependents

Can be granted to a spouse or unmarried children under 21 if the high school student is accompanied by a guardian participating in another exchange program.

In the case of the Secondary School Student Program, the student usually travels alone and stays with a host family, so the J-2 visa is not commonly used here.
