The Research Scholar Program is a segment of the U.S. BridgeUSA cultural exchange initiative, aiming to foster the exchange of ideas and knowledge between international researchers and American academic and research institutions. Through this program, Jordanian researchers can join accredited universities, research centers, or specialized institutions in the United States to conduct research, deliver lectures, or participate in joint scientific projects. The program does not grant permanent residency but is a temporary opportunity, usually lasting up to 5 years maximum. It allows the scholar to enhance their expertise, build an academic network, and contribute to enriching scientific research. Who Can Apply? University faculty members in Jordan wishing to spend a research or teaching period in the U.S. Researchers in scientific centers or research institutions.

Essential Requirements

The researcher must not be a candidate for a permanent position (Tenure Track) in the U.S.

Must not have participated in the J-1 Research Scholar Program during the last 24 months.

Must not have resided in the U.S. on another J-1 program for more than 12 months preceding the current program start (with certain exceptions).

Obtain an official invitation or cooperation agreement from an accredited American institution.

A valid passport for the entire duration of the program.

Proof of financial ability to cover living expenses (if not fully funded by the host institution).

Application Steps

Obtain an invitation or acceptance from an accredited American institution.

Receive Form DS-2019 from the sponsoring institution.

Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee.

Complete the DS-160 online application form.

Pay the visa fee ($185 USD).

Book an appointment at the U.S. Embassy in Amman.

Attend the personal interview and submit the required documents.

Receive the visa and travel to the United States.
