Discover the political stability, historical neutrality, and stunning Alps

General Overview

Switzerland is a European country located in the heart of the continent, known for its political stability, historical neutrality, and high standard of living.
It covers an area of approximately 41,285 km² and has a population of around 9 million (2025). Its capital is Bern, while cities like Zurich and Geneva are global financial and diplomatic centers.
Switzerland boasts a unique linguistic diversity with four official languages: German, French, Italian, and Romansh. This diversity reflects its federal nature, consisting of 26 Cantons, each with its own constitution and broad local powers.
Geographically, Switzerland is famous for the Alps, which cover most of its territory, in addition to plateaus and lakes like Lake Geneva and Lake Zurich. The highest peak is Monte Rosa (4,634 meters), and the lowest point is Lake Maggiore (193 meters).
Historically, Switzerland has been associated with neutrality since the 19th century, not directly participating in either World War. This neutrality has made it the headquarters for many international organizations, such as the Red Cross, and a center for global diplomatic negotiations.
Economically, Switzerland is one of the strongest economies globally, relying on the financial sector (banking and insurance), luxury watchmaking, pharmaceuticals, and technological innovation. It is also a leading country in chocolate and cheese production.
Culturally, Switzerland combines various European traditions and is known for its folk festivals, music, and arts. It is also a global tourist destination thanks to its stunning nature, ski resorts, and historic cities.
